NEOTOKYO Tribute

Today I wanted to take the time and give a little tribute and shout out to a game I played pretty much every day for a solid 6 months before coming to Canada. This was not a commercial game sold in stores, but a game made by a group of people for no profit. They just did it to simply make a game to share with a community of people. The game is NEOTOKYO…

Commercial games have money to pay for advertising, but NEOTOKYO was an independent mod or modification developed off of the Source engine by Valve. I felt like I needed to give them a little plug, not just for advertising, but also to simply tell them thank you for a great video game experience.

NEOTOKYO was a very original game… The game play is unlike any I had ever seen in the first person shooter genre. To make something so original in a game today is quite a difficult task to accomplish, because so much has been done in the over saturated FPS market.

The art style of NEOTOKYO was also quite amazing for a game built for no profit. And that is really what I wanted to highlight in this post. I wanted to praise the makers of NEOTOKYO, Studio Radi8, and thank them for a great game, give them some free ad space, and also show the world why I loved the art style to their game.

I am not going to be explaining the game or how to play it, you can visit their webpage for that, I just want to show you their art style.  I hope you enjoy the post, please click continue reading below to begin.

If you want to visit the NEOTOKYO Homepage you can here: http://neotokyohq.com/

When I played NEOTOKYO I got pretty into the community.  I went by the name “deadLights” and I lead a clan called Team Zanshi.  Zanshi ended up being the number one clan in all of NEOTOKYO and was never defeated in a match.  We participated in three or so tourneys in the small community, and even ended up beating the top European teams for the title of “World Champions.”  Pretty silly when you consider the small community, but still fun nevertheless.  I mention all of this nerdyness for simply one reason.  I made a game play video from a collection of clips during my NEOTOKYO experience.  I thought it would be a great way to show you how cool the game is, and a great way to see the art direction of the game.

I honestly don’t have much else to say about the game. As I mentioned earlier you can visit their webpage to read up about their original game play. To save on time and space I am going to include a gallery of all the art I felt was worth checking out. Thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoy.
