From My Sketchbook: New Drawings

Hey guys.

It has been far too long since I have done 2D.  The other night I had a dream about this creepy rock golem character and when I woke up his face was so vivid I had to sketch him out.  That led to the following two drawings.  I did these this weekend in PhotoShop.  I have never used PhotoShop as a medium to paint, so I was pretty excited to try drawing in the program.

I figure it has been about four years since I really took the time to sit down and draw a serious character.  Don’t get my wrong, I have been sketching, doing cartoons, landscape drawings for college, etc… I just have not done a CHARACTER for quite some time.  So I hope you enjoy.  Feed back is appreciated.

The first image you will see is of an elf I drew this weekend as well as my rock golem.  This drawing is a re-done drawing of one I did when I was in 8th grade.  This drawing is actually Legolas from the Lord of the Rings.  I drew this in 8th grade when I finished the book for the first time.  I copied his pose from a Spiderman drawing, but other than that the whole drawing is mine.  I redrew him today in PhotoShop and painted the drawing.  Admittedly, I am not very happy with the result.  I feel I could have done better on the color and I don’t like his eyes/face.  Oh well next time… I am kinda happy with his armor. I wanted it to look like he stitched metal leaves together, what do you think?

The second image is the golem from my dream.  I don’t have a name for him yet.  Any ideas?  The pose and his head were referenced from another artist I really love.  Other than that this is my work.  There was no tracing involved in this drawing!  I just looked at other images to get semi realistic anatomy, rocks, and cloth.  The coloring and texturing is all mine.  I hope you enjoy.
