Hello every one. A quick post tonight. I just finished the final renders of “HANK, THE FOREST DEMON.” Hank was a creature modeled by one of my instructors a few years ago. For a class project we had to texture Hank. For you non-cg people that means we had to “paint” or “put the skin on” the creature.
This Hank texture also has a bump map, a reflective map, a specular map, and a displacement map. In other words, these “maps” give Hank the look of having shiny and bumpy skin. I also added a few lights and a HDR image to make Hank look pretty cool.
For my first ever character texture, I am pretty happy with it! Please tell me what you think. Oh, I am also gonna include another project I am working on in this post, so click “continue reading” to see. ![]()

I am also working on modeling my very first character for my modeling class. I thought I would show you some pictures of my progress. Remember, this is a start and no where near completed. First I will show you my concept art.
This is the character I am currently trying to make. So first we have to build a base mesh. Something to just get the shapes some what correct. That is the next image:
After the basic shape is built, you can begin to add things like muscle and fat. That is currently what stage my character is in, as you can see from the image below.
He has a long way to go, and tomorrow I plan on starting the head. Wish me luck and thanks for looking!

This stuff really blows me away! I love the the pattern on the back of Hank–looks bio-luminescent. Do keep sharing. It’s fascinating to see the progression.
I agree with Amanda! You already have his bulging belly looking good…
This looks too complicated…a good old fashioned pen or pencil seems easier. Thanks for sharing your learning experiences with us. It is fun to see your progress and the process.
Cheers!
Thanks for the kind comments Amanda and Mom.
I am glad you are enjoying seeing my process.
Looks like you’re still making really fast progress. Good to see. Get the character done this weekend!!
What is the real timeline for that guy?
The time line is kinda like this: One week to do the base mesh. (I did four hehe)… One week to do the body, head, and ears. That is the stage I am on right now. Then we have one week to do hands, feet and accessories. Then pose it.
Then on our own time we UV unwrap it and texture it.
Thanks for the comment by the way Nate.
