Zombie Apocalypse!

So what is it with humanity’s obsession with zombies over the last 10 years?  There have been dozens of movies and video games about zombies recently… is some one trying to tell us something?

Who knows?  What I do know is I love reaping the benefits of the zombie fad.  Some of my favorite movies (28 Days Later) and games (Left 4 Dead) are all zombie biased, and recently I have even began to read about the living dead.  That is right: this week I started the book “The Zombie Survival Guide” by Max Brooks.  I will tell you what… When the impending doom of a zombie apocalypse hits, this book has prepared me.

I have decided that I need to spread the word and give some tips to survive the horror that will indeed come someday.  Pay attention: who knows when this information will serve you best.

Ten Tips on Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse (credit to Mr. Max Brooks to writing such a great book, these tips are biased off the ones in his book.)

  • Don’t Be a Hero – Fighting zombies should never be a solo job.  There is no need for Rambo when the zombies hit.  Be smart and team up.  If you think you can survive solo remember: You will run out of bullets and you will fatigue.  There are more zombies than you have bullets and zombies do not tire… They will get you.  Never go off alone.
  • Be Alert – Pay attention.  Have a look out and never let your guard down.
  • Guides - If you are in an unfamiliar location, try and find some one with local knowledge.  Use your resources.
  • Have  a Base - Make sure your group has a base where you keep all your supplies.  Make sure this place is heavily fortified and also has an escape route.
  • Use Daylight - There are reasons bad things in horror movies happen at night.  At night stay alert and stay smart.  Travel by day and your odds will greatly improve.
  • Plan Your Escape - No matter where you go, or where you may sleep for the night… Be able to escape.  Know it well and plan it.  Scout it out, even guard it.  Your escape route is one of the most important things to survive.
  • Wait for Them - Be smart.  Don’t look for trouble, let it find you.  If you are safe, why go looking for the fight?  Wait for them to come, and be ready when they do.  Because they will come…
  • Kill and Listen – After a fight, pay attention.  If there are more zombies, they will have heard the fight and will be coming as well.
  • Double Tap – If you kill a zombie, shoot it again to be sure.
  • Clothes – Wear tight clothes or light armor if possible.  Cut your hair short as well.  Leave no skin exposed.

Good luck!  Please leave a comment below if you feel you have other tips to offer.
