Graffiti: Terms and Rules

I realized in my post on graffiti history I added some terms the average reader may not understand.  I hope this post may clear up any questions you have.

I also wanted to include some rules the graffiti artist pays attention to.

Terms:

  • Bomb – Painting your marking, rather large covering a big surface.
  • Bombing – To go out writing graffiti.
  • Burn – To beat out your competition, or to paint something that simply “burns.”
  • Burner – A mural, a very good peice, a good style, something that really is just art.
  • Fresh – New and good.
  • Getting Up – Go out painting and get recgonized. Tag anywehere with any style.
  • Handstyle – A signature.
  • Rack – To steal spray paint.
  • Tag – The most basic form. A signature.
  • Throw Up – To throw something up on a surface, more than just a handstyle. Often in bubble letters, this goes up quick with out much color.
  • Toy – People who don’t respect the scene and are just wack. Vandals. Inexpereanced writers.
  • Wack – Incorrect, cheesy or weak.

Graffiti Rules:

  1. You don’t paint over some one elses work with out permission.
  2. You suck until further notice.
  3. Pick a good name, and don’t use a real one. Something that looks good.
  4. Don’t write on houses of worship, or peoples houses, writers names, or tombstones. Memorial walls and cars is unforgivable.
  5. Rack your paint when you can.
